BLOOD ORANGE APEROL SPRITZ
One of my favorite cocktails is the aperol spritz. It's so refreshing and the perfect balance of sweet and bitter. I love when blood oranges are in season. They are so beautiful and almost have a raspberry flavor to them, making them perfect for cocktails. I like to buy a bunch, slice them and dehydrate them for the garnish. Feel free to skip that step and just use a fresh slice
ingredients
For the spritz
Plenty of ice
3 oz Prosecco, I like a sweet variety
2 oz aperol
1 oz blood orange juice
For the garnish
1 dehydrated (or fresh) blood orange slice
Makes 1 Cocktail
Dehydrate your blood oranges by thinly slicing them (¼” slices) and placing them on a dehydrator tray for 2-3 hours. Alternatively you can do this in the oven by placing the slices on a parchment-lined baking tray and baking at 225 degrees for 2 hours. Turn them over and bake another 1-½ hours.
Make the spritz by filling a large wine glass with ice, add Prosecco, then Aperol. Top off with blood orange juice and stir briefly. Garnish with an orange slice of choice.
